PROJECT EZRA![]() Project Ezra Changes Direction Close to 1,000 volunteers, representing dozens of Massachusetts congregations and Jewish organizations, have participated each year in the Synagogue Council's Project Ezra on December 25th. Some Project Ezra volunteers go to shelters and meal delivery programs to assist those in need of holiday meals. Others participate in preparing meals and hosting guests at their own synagogues. In addition to shelters and meal deliveries, Project Ezra volunteers provide critical services and assistance to soup kitchens, nursing homes, residential homes, and hospitals. Both Jews and Christians feel the positive impact of this interfaith community-wide annual activity throughout Massachusetts. Given that the Synagogue Council has matched congregations with recipient institutions for close to 25 years, Project Ezra will now be completely synagogue-centered, without the Council's direct involvement. We believe this is possible because synagogues have established wonderful relationships with their partner institutions over these many years. This means that SCM will no longer be coordinating the initiative and each synagogue's volunteers will make their own contacts.
