In a joyous and heartfelt celebration, the Greater Boston Jewish Community joined the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts (SCM) in honoring its longtime Executive Director, Alan Teperow. Alan is the founding Executive Director of the organization and has served in the position for 33 innovative, successful years, making his mark as a pioneer in the pursuit and realization of Jewish unity and pluralism throughout the community. Alan's work with the many diverse congregations in the Commonwealth was acknowledged by several of the evening's speakers.
Thank you, Ellen!
Alan bestowed a meaningful piece of original art to long-time Program Associate, Ellen Michelson, who is also retiring from SCM. The piece, marking her wonderful qualities, was created by Paula Brody, one of Ellen’s favorite artists.
Gratitude from the SCM Staff
Assistant Director, Marilin Lipman, spoke about the deep bonds that exist between Alan and the SCM staff. It is a team that works closely and shares much, professionally and personally.
Welcome to SCM's New Executive Director!
David Bernat, incoming Executive Director, was introduced by Arnie Zaff and warmly welcomed at the podium. In his words of gratitude and transition, David led the congregation in a moving prayer of thanksgiving during this time of communal change.
A Musical Note is Worth a Thousand Words
An homage to Alan’s deep love of Jewish music, both The Zamir Chorale of Boston and SAFAM perform as a major component of the evening’s celebration.
Alan, an alumnus of the Zamir Chorale of Boston, and dear friend of Zamir’s Artistic Director and Founder, Josh Jacobson and founding member of Safam, Alan Nelson, joins in to perform a rendition of Adon Olam to the tune of Blue Moon, along with both groups—to the delight of an appreciative crowd!
