"Synagogue-of-the-Month"

Our Featured Member synagogue for February 2009 is Congregation Beth Jacob, a Reform congregation in Plymouth. We are pleased to recognize the synagogue in celebration of its 100th anniversary!

Congregation Beth Jacob has been a cornerstone of America's Hometown, Plymouth, for nearly a century since its founding in 1909. The Beis Jacob Society of Plymouth is a welcoming Jewish Community serving the greater pre-cape area of the south shore. We enjoy year-round educational opportunities, learning activities and spiritual fulfillment. With a rich history and vibrant sense of community, "CBJ" is recognized and relied upon by many as the primary source of Jewish resources and activities in the Plymouth area.

For 35 years, Rabbi Lawrence Silverman has been a treasure of knowledge and wisdom for us and the greater Plymouth community. Together, Rabbi Silverman and the congregation strive to be a good neighbor to anyone in the Plymouth community who may find themselves in need. Jewish education is a life-long commitment at CBJ. For our young, Beit Sefer - our religious school, Hebrew lessons, Confirmation Class, and Bar/Bat Mitzvah training with Rabbi Silverman instill a strong Jewish education. Adult Education programs offer venues for learning and meaningful discussions, and include trips and experiences to expand our knowledge and appreciation of Judaism and Jewish culture.

CBJ has plans for celebrations throughout the year, and most especially during the 100th Anniversary Weekend of May 1-3. The weekend festivities include special Shabbat services and speakers Friday night and Saturday morning, a Dinner Dance Saturday evening, and a Brunch and Trolley Car Tour of Jewish Plymouth on Sunday. We encourage all interested parties, especially members of founding families of Congregation Beth Jacob, to contact our President via email, call 508-224-6461, or visit our www.cbjplymouth.org for further information.
