"Synagogue-of-the-Month"

Our Featured Member synagogue for March 2009 is Congregation Sons of Israel, an independent congregation in Peabody. We are pleased to recognize the synagogue in celebration of its 100th anniversary!

Congregation Sons of Israel is a 'Haimish', traditional, egalitarian synagogue, located about 18 miles north of Boston at Park and Spring Street near Peabody Square in Peabody, Massachusetts. The Shul and its 300 member families are proud of its 100-year heritage as the "mother shul" of Peabody. Congregation Sons of Israel serves the needs of residents of Peabody and the surrounding communities, with a new spirit, as a place of prayer, social gathering, and fellowship with a unique vision, and a spirit of inclusion.

The synagogue is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year with many special events and celebrations. All events are open to the public, but we’re specifically looking for people who grew up in Jewish Peabody, and who have ties to our Shul.

  • May 1st: there will be a special Friday Night Service honoring our founders and their descendants.
  • Nov 14: a dinner/dance is planned at the Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers.
  • Dec 13: a Proclamation Day is planned at the Shul. Members/guests/dignitaries are invited.

We encourage all interested parties to contact us at [email protected], call 978-532-1624, or visit our website for further information.
