After you're introduced to the traditional materials, you will have an opportunity to write your own Mezuzah. In this 5 session course you will be learning about the traditions and materials used in sacred Jewish calligraphy and will have a hands-on opportunity to create a ritual object for your home, or for your loved ones. Your guide will be Rabbi Rachel Schoenfeld, an aspiring Soferet. The course will meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00 PM from January 13 through February 10 at the offices of the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts, 1320 Centre Street in Newton Centre-3rd floor. Cost for the 5-session course is $100 per person, plus a one-time $10 materials fee per participant. Rabbi Rachel Schoenfeld is the Rabbi of Congregation Shirat Hayam, a Reconstructionist congregation in Marshfield, MA. She is one of the few female aspiring sofrot. Rabbi Schoenfeld has a degree in Jewish education, and has taught children and adults of all ages.
